A big hurdle for many of my clients when first getting an email set up, or when migrating from a webmail address, is to get the settings correct in their email application. Outlook is by far the most common, and Microsoft could sure make things a little easier for the average computer novice. When setting up an email included with your Element Engage web hosting account, the settings are almost always the same:
- The incoming and outgoing mail servers are both “mail.yourdomain.com”
- The username is the full email address, i.e. “you@yourdomain.com”
Sometimes your ISP (internet service provider) will not allow sending mail through another email server. In this case the quick fix is to use your ISP’s mail server in place of ”mail.yourdomain.com”. This setting will vary depending on your ISP. You can match an account you already have set up or contact your ISP for this info.
Once everything is set right, emails should send and receive with ease.
