I just built a new website for a script I wrote and want to share with my fellow web designers, developers and anyone else who might find it useful. It’s called SimpleFilePage. When it comes to exchanging files with client’s, email works great until the file sizes get up over 10 MB. Then things get iffy as to whether the message will get through. This makes exchanging these larger files with clients a challenge. Yes, there are file sharing services abounding, but I wanted something simpler, on my own server and with my name on it.
To use SimpleFilePage, all you need to do is create a folder on your web server and drop the it inside. Then when you navigate to this folder in your web browser, the self-contained script page loads up, giving you a view of all the files in the folder and an upload form to add more.
I wrote the SimpleFilePage script and started using it for my own clients. I was thrilled with how easy it made those large file exchanges. So I decided to build a simple website for it and share it with the world. It’s been a fun project and I look forward to refining and improving the beta script. If you find the need to exchange large files with anyone, I invite you to give the current version a try, it’s FREE: SimpleFilePage.
